What Is Botox?
Hey everyone, I hope you are all enjoying a well-deserved weekend and are getting some quality rest and recreation time. For today’s topic, I want to highlight another one of our clinic’s treatments – Botox. This is a treatment that many people are fearful of because of individuals that have experienced botched cases, or have simply overdone it. Some celebrities desperate to cling onto their youthful looks have given Botox a bad image, but in reality it is a fairly safe treatment if used in moderation.

How Does It Work?
Botox is generally used to treat aesthetic issues, especially those linked to old age but it can also be used for other purposes. Its full name is Botulinum Toxin and is usually injected into an area that is outlined for treatment. Botox helps to relax muscles in the particular area, blocking the nerve impulses in the muscles that are treated by it.
It is a good non-surgical method that gives you satisfactory results without having to go under the knife. This makes it a suitable treatment method for individuals that are afraid of more invasive or surgical methods.
Your doctor will apply numbing cream to the pre-determined treatment area, before fine or micro needles are used to inject the Botox. This is to ensure that any redness will be minimal, as well as any bleeding or bruising. These can be considered as ‘side effects’ of the treatment, as more serious side effects are not very common!
What Can It Treat?
As mentioned earlier, Botox is commonly used to treat aesthetic problems, especially in facial areas. Perhaps the most frequent problems treated by Botox are wrinkles and fine lines. These will form as you age over time, with your skin becoming drier and less elastic than it used to be. This results in the skin beginning to fold or crease permanently since it cannot snap back into place. The lack of collagen and elastin being produced will also mean that wrinkles and fine lines appear at an increasingly fast rate.

Botox may also be used to help sculpt or contour your face, as it relaxes your jaw muscles and thins out the chewing muscles in your lateral jaw. This helps to shape your face into a desirable oval or V-shape which is slimmer in profile and increasingly popular among Asians in particular. The slimmer profile also projects a more youthful and vibrant look, while skin also appears to be healthier and rejuvenated.

In addition, Botox can also help you if you suffer from excessive sweating! The chemical nerve triggers that cause sweat to be produced by the body will be blocked by Botox, which causes the signal to be cut off from the sweat glands, stopping production. Clinical studies have indicated favourable success rates and can reduce excessive sweating by up to 80%!
In all treatments, you may require top up injections but this will vary from individual to individual and you will be advised accordingly by your doctor.
