Are You Tired All The Time? – Part 2

by | Feb 5, 2015

Hey guys, I hope this week has continued to treat you well. In my previous post, I looked at three reason that could the cause of fatigue and excessive tiredness. You can read the original post by clicking here.

Today, I will continue to look at other potential causes of fatigue. It is certainly something that people can relate to, seeing that so many of us feel tired for long periods of time during the day. Read on below to find out why this might be so.

Depression
We often hear of how depression affects your mental capacity as well as symptoms of emotional distress. But depression can also affect you physically and take a toll on your energy levels as well. Some symptoms of depression may include losing your appetite, as well as headaches and fatigue.

It may also be linked to sleeping disorders, which creates a vicious cycle of not getting enough energy which eventually leads to depression and other health conditions. If you are tired all the time and are easily irritable or anxious for more than two weeks, do seek medical advice. If depression is treated early on, any improvements to your emotional state should also see your energy levels rebound accordingly.

Exercising Too Little
Although exercising too much might obviously lead to a lack of energy, you may also begin to feel tired and sluggish if you don’t exercise enough! Many of us with full-time jobs may struggle to set aside some time to exercise, play a sport, or go to a gym for a certain period of time. If your day is spent at a desk or looking at screens with minimal body movement, you need to get exercising!

Your body’s level of blood glucose and cortisol will build up during the day at work, and you need to find a way to release the tension and energy that is built up. If you go to sleep with all that excess energy in your body, it may disrupt your sleeping patterns and result in sluggishness the following morning. All you need is about two hours of relatively moderate exercise a week to reduce your fatigue. It does not have to be elaborate and a simple activity like walking or playing a sport should suffice.

Stress
The stress hormone, cortisol, will be at its peak during the morning and drop at night – this is the usual daily pattern. Stress can be closely linked to work, but can also include issues within the family or home. No matter what your source of stress is, it can throw off your body’s cortisol routine which may eventually disrupt your sleep as well. If you are constantly worrying, it keeps your body alert and frantic which means it gets harder to enjoy a good night’s sleep.

This might also lead to the level of cortisol being produced by your body to fall drastically, meaning you will no longer be alert and energetic in the morning, which results in fatigue or sluggishness throughout the day. You may not be able to control what causes your stress, but there are many techniques out there to deal with it. You may want to try some of them in order to maintain your energy levels.

Until next time, stay healthy everyone!
