Why Do I Have Spider Veins?
Hi everyone, I hope you are all enjoying a lovely weekend and are getting some much needed rest and relaxation to tackle the coming week. For today’s topic, I want to explore what causes the present of spider veins, also known as fine veins. They can appear on your face, leg or other body parts and often snake across the skin, which may appear unsightly to some individuals. But why do these veins appear and how can they be treated?
The Cause of Spider / Fine Veins
These veins are easily visible, especially on lighter skin tones, due to its blue, red or purple colour. Spider veins often twist and turn across the skin, and as mentioned earlier, are commonly found on the face and legs, but it may appear on other parts of the body as well. It might even rise above the skin, although this is less common.

It may also be hereditary, meaning that you may inherit this feature from your parents and will experience it at some point, regardless of your activity or health condition. However, it is more likely that you will experience spider veins due to changes in the hormones, with puberty, pregnancy and menopause being prime times for hormonal changes.
Spider veins are also much more likely to come about as you get older, but it can also occur due to standing for large periods of time. For example, teachers or nurses that are always on their feet in the hospital may be susceptible to spider veins. Studies have also indicated that women are much more likely to suffer from spider veins, with between 30-60% of adults expected to experience this at some point in their lifetime as well.

Some other causes that may contribute to this include obesity, the regular use of birth control pills, history of blood clotting, or even an increased pressure in the abdomen – this can range from constipation to wearing girdles, to more serious issues such as tumours.
How Can It Be Treated?
Lasers are a common type of technology used to treat spider veins, and have been in use around the world for a number of years. The GentleYAG laser system is used at Premier Clinic, with a dynamic cooling device called into action to help reduce the discomfort that may be stinging to the patient. A cold sponge is applied to the skin after each laser pulse; this helps to cool down the treatment area and alleviates discomfort in the process.

For individuals fearful of needles, this treatment is suitable as no needles are used, nor is the skin even pierced at any time, with only laser beams used during the process. It is a non-invasive treatment, and there is also no risk of any allergic reactions to the swift treatment. As the technology is computer controlled, this also minimises the risk of potential complications,
