WHAT CAUSES AGE SPOTS?

If your skin is overexposed to the sun, it will naturally try to protect itself via melanin production to combat the effect of harmful UV rays. You may develop age spots if the production of melanin is focused in a series of small spots, leading to grey, brown or black spots showing up across the skin.

You may also develop hyperpigmentation, which occurs due to the melanin production being focused on a small skin patch, which is usually darker in colour, instead of a group of tiny spots. If you pick your skin, experience hormonal changes or even consume some medication, these may also cause both age spots and hyperpigmentation.

WHAT IS PRP TREATMENT?

It involves your blood being drawn, just like in a blood test, after which the blood is put into a special machine. This device works to separate platelets, blood cells and serum – this is then reinjected into the body area that need treatment.

What this does is release growth factors, triggering the growth of new skin cells and tissue, as well as collagen in your skin. As a result, your skin tone should be improved thanks to the fresh, new layer of skin. It should also appear smoother and more vibrant.

The age spots or hyperpigmentation should be reduced greatly, and your skin should continue to improve over the coming months. Results tend to last for 18 months, after which top-up treatments are needed to maintain your look.
